It is worthwhile to consider the use of text and image in other artists' work. I hope you'll enjoy sharing that with me. There may be other artist's that come to mind. One friend has already mentioned to me the contemporary artist Jenny Holzer. Here are some others to look at:
Roy Lichtenstein is someone whose work I have enjoyed for many years. Note that his source material was comic strips of the 1930's. Personals Ads, anyone?
Rene Magritte let us know that "this is not a pipe." It is a painting of a pipe. Text and image are abstractions of reality?
Guillaume Apollinaire (1880 - 1918) arranged words to form images. He is credited with coining the term "Surrealism." What information do we read in an image?
